Abstract The predictive power of solution-dependent conformational states of the Aβ(1–42) peptide of Alzheimer's disease by an optimized backpropagation neural network was tested. It was found that the neural network simulates well the solution-dependent conformations. The model was also examined by using geometry-optimized conformations (hybrid approach of Gasteiger charges plus MM+ molecular-mechanics) where the initial coordinates were obtained by NMR solution spectroscopy. 相似文献

The origin of nervous systems is a main theme in biology and its mechanisms are largely underlied by synaptic neurotransmission. One problem to explain synapse establishment is that synaptic orthologs are present in multiple aneural organisms. We questioned how the interactions among these elements evolved and to what extent it relates to our understanding of the nervous systems complexity. We identified the human neurotransmission gene network based on genes present in GABAergic, glutamatergic, serotonergic, dopaminergic, and cholinergic systems. The network comprises 321 human genes, 83 of which act exclusively in the nervous system. We reconstructed the evolutionary scenario of synapse emergence by looking for synaptic orthologs in 476 eukaryotes. The Human–Cnidaria common ancestor displayed a massive emergence of neuroexclusive genes, mainly ionotropic receptors, which might have been crucial to the evolution of synapses. Very few synaptic genes had their origin after the Human–Cnidaria common ancestor. We also identified a higher abundance of synaptic proteins in vertebrates, which suggests an increase in the synaptic network complexity of those organisms. 相似文献

PurposeFetal biometric measurements face a number of challenges, including the presence of speckle, limited soft-tissue contrast and difficulties in the presence of low amniotic fluid. This work proposes a convolutional neural network for automatic segmentation and measurement of fetal biometric parameters, including biparietal diameter (BPD), head circumference (HC), abdominal circumference (AC), and femur length (FL) from ultrasound images that relies on the attention gates incorporated into the multi-feature pyramid Unet (MFP-Unet) network.MethodsThe proposed approach, referred to as Attention MFP-Unet, learns to extract/detect salient regions automatically to be treated as the object of interest via the attention gates. After determining the type of anatomical structure in the image using a convolutional neural network, Niblack's thresholding technique was applied as pre-processing algorithm for head and abdomen identification, whereas a novel algorithm was used for femur extraction. A publicly-available dataset (HC18 grand-challenge) and clinical data of 1334 subjects were utilized for training and evaluation of the Attention MFP-Unet algorithm.ResultsDice similarity coefficient (DSC), hausdorff distance (HD), percentage of good contours, the conformity coefficient, and average perpendicular distance (APD) were employed for quantitative evaluation of fetal anatomy segmentation. In addition, correlation analysis, good contours, and conformity were employed to evaluate the accuracy of the biometry predictions. Attention MFP-Unet achieved 0.98, 1.14 mm, 100%, 0.95, and 0.2 mm for DSC, HD, good contours, conformity, and APD, respectively.ConclusionsQuantitative evaluation demonstrated the superior performance of the Attention MFP-Unet compared to state-of-the-art approaches commonly employed for automatic measurement of fetal biometric parameters. 相似文献

The synchronous behaviour of interacting communities is studied in this paper. Each community is described by a tritrophic food chain model, and the communities interact through a network with arbitrary topology, composed of patches and migration corridors. The analysis of the local synchronization properties (via the master stability function approach) shows that, if only one species can migrate, the dispersal of the consumer (i.e., the intermediate trophic level) is the most effective mechanism for promoting synchronization. When analysing the effects of the variations of demographic parameters, it is found that factors that stabilize the single community also tend to favour synchronization. Global synchronization is finally analysed by means of the connection graph method, yielding a lower bound on the value of the dispersion rate that guarantees the synchronization of the metacommunity for a given network topology. 相似文献

Costs of reproduction due to resource allocation trade-offs have long been recognized as key forces in life history evolution, but little is known about their functional or genetic basis. Arabidopsis lyrata, a perennial relative of the annual model plant A. thaliana with a wide climatic distribution, has populations that are strongly diverged in resource allocation. In this study, we evaluated the genetic and functional basis for variation in resource allocation in a reciprocal transplant experiment, using four A. lyrata populations and F2 progeny from a cross between North Carolina (NC) and Norway parents, which had the most divergent resource allocation patterns. Local alleles at quantitative trait loci (QTL) at a North Carolina field site increased reproductive output while reducing vegetative growth. These QTL had little overlap with flowering date QTL. Structural equation models incorporating QTL genotypes and traits indicated that resource allocation differences result primarily from QTL effects on early vegetative growth patterns, with cascading effects on later vegetative and reproductive development. At a Norway field site, North Carolina alleles at some of the same QTL regions reduced survival and reproductive output components, but these effects were not associated with resource allocation trade-offs in the Norway environment. Our results indicate that resource allocation in perennial plants may involve important adaptive mechanisms largely independent of flowering time. Moreover, the contributions of resource allocation QTL to local adaptation appear to result from their effects on developmental timing and its interaction with environmental constraints, and not from simple models of reproductive costs. 相似文献

Scottish Natural Heritage, the statutory conservation agency, is considering the desirability and feasibility of developing a network of woodland habitats to redress the long term trend of fragmentation and isolation. Woodland conservation has long been based on site protection, but recent changes in policy, attitude and practice have opened up the possibility of recreating native forest cover on a much larger scale. The ECONET approach appears to have much to offer as the basis for enhancing the biodiversity of Scotland's forest resource. A network could be developed from existing woods to form a Scotland-wide network of Core Forest Areas and major landscape links, largely associated with major valleys. To achieve this, existing concentrations of woodland would be extended into poorly wooded districts. Many vulnerable wildlife species are likely to benefit, and there would be other benefits for recreation, landscape and timber production. 相似文献
